Three Cups of Wonderful

I just finishied the book, "Three Cups of Tea" and it was fantastic. If any of you are looking for a new read, this is it my friends. The book is about a man who heads to Pakistan on a quest to climb K2, the 2nd highest mountain in the world. On his descent he becomes lost and disoriented and as a result stumbles into a small village high in the Karakoram range. The village people nurse him back to health, caring for and feeding him until he grew strong enough to continue his walk down. To show his gratitude he promises to return and to build a school. The book is about his return to Pakistan to make good on his promise and his quest to continue building schools throughout Pakistan, educating children, particularly girls who have never had access to education.

The story that emerges is heart stirring and seems a call to action. It made me extraodinarily grateful for the opporunities we have in United States while simutaneously frustrated that we as a country are trying to promote equal opportunity and democracy throughout that area of the world with airplanes and bombs versus education.

I walked away with a profound respect for Greg Mortensen (the climber turned philanthropist) and all those like him that fight a war worth fighting without reward or accolades and despite difficulty unprecendented.

Pick it up next time your at the book store...if you wish of course.
