Half an Ironman

Wade competed in the 70.3 Oceanside Ironman triathlon. For those of you unfamiliar with triathlon, that's half the distance of what is normally considered an "Ironman". But quite a feat none the less. That 70.3 distance includes a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike and a 13.1 mile run. A little perspective...it's like swimming, biking and running from our house in Laguna Niguel to Carlsbad and back. Or going from downtown SLC to Provo and back. Or from the river in St. Louis to Wentzville and back. Daunting right? Tess and I made a day of cheering him on, he remained strong and steady the entire distance, making us proud as could be. It's hard for me sometimes to be a spectator. I find myself wishing and wanting to be competing as well, but Saturday I was glad to watch Wade push some physical limits and find success and satisfaction is doing so. And yes, I cried at the finish line. I always cry at finish lines. Is there anymore joyful, proud, rewarding place than a finish line? Way to go Buster.
