Spring is my favorite time in Southern California. It was my favorite time in the Lou too. Perhaps it is just my favorite time. The hills are so lush and green and combined with the blue sky and sunshine, well, it's nearly like the Garden of Eden. In a month or so May Gray and then June Gloom will arrive and bring heavy Marine layers that last until noon or so and then when it starts warming up the hills start drying out quickly. Soooo...one must take advantage of the beauty while it lasts. Which is precisely what Diana, Rachel and I did last week with a hike in Crystal Cove.
We did a 4-5 mile loop. It took us nearly 2 hours and the kiddos were phenomenal. Such good little sports. Their little leggies were just dying to wiggle so we got them out of their "containers" and let them run the last few hundred yards.
Wildflowers. I love every thing they represent. Growing in unforgiving environments, for just a few weeks each year. And thriving. I know it looks like this all the time in some places, but like many things, it is maybe it's short lived run that makes it so sweet. Plus, it rains all the time in those places.

Any rattlesnakes? Aaron and I would see them on that trail often, and snake trails. Yikes. There was one part we called snake alley as we always saw some kind of snake at this one part of the hike. Still didn't change how much we loved doing that hike. We were actually just talking about maybe doing it this weekend. Way to go to the lil guys for making the trek too. So pretty and fun.
