This past weekend, Wade and hit 8 years. 8 YEARS!! I haven't a clue where those went so fast. While I can remember our wedding day like it was last week, it also feels like Wade has been a part of my life forever. Perhaps because he has been, I just didn't know it until 9 years or so ago.
When Tutz was in town a few weeks ago for T's recital she was a dream and took the kids for a night. We went up to Newport for the night, went to dinner, slept through the WHOLE night, SLEPT IN, ordered breakfast in bed and went for a walk on the beach. It was the best. I told Wade at breakfast, "Gosh, I didn't realize how bad I needed this." Not just the good night's sleep, but the one on one time with the guy that I love. No matter how hard we try, it just gets harder to find that time with the kids, we are so often distracted. I like to remember now and then why I like him so much.
Last Sunday I was teaching the Young Women's lesson on Marriage Standards. I was trying to drive home the point that when we are young, prior to marriage, we have these ideals, this theory of what our marriage and life will be like and that often times, once we are married we need to be flexible and realize that those ideals will change and evolve as we change and evolve. That certain things that at one time seemed so important will become less so, as other things become more so. One of the girls raised her hand and asked me, "What about you? Is your marriage like you thought it would be, or like you dreamed it would be?" I smiled and paused and said, "There are certain things like the white picket fence and big front porch that are still missing, but as far as having a husband that loves and respects me, that I love and respect, that makes me a priority, that still makes me laugh everyday, yes, that dream is still alive and well."
Lucky me.
