Girls's Weekend

A little over a month ago, I escaped for a girls getaway. Well, it turned out to be just a night away for me as someone is still attached to the milk machine, but it was a great night and day away. My friends are cool, we centered this getaway around the Santa Barbara Half Marathon.

The race is actually run in Solvang, about a 30 minute drive inland from SB, nestled in the Santa Ynez mountains. I've run nearly 20 half marathons in my day, but this one goes down undoubtably as the most beautiful. It was so green and rolling, we ran through vineyards and farms, it made me feel like I was in Tuscany. The weather was cool and overcast. Perfect.

The rolling hills made for a more challenging course, it definitely wasn't an easy breezy 13.1, but everyone did great. I matched my PR from last May. Last May, I was preggers, this May I was 3 months post baby and breast feeding. Surely, I can get faster and beat my PR.

After the race we went to breakfast and sampled the local fare. Solvang was settled by the Dutch and still maintains a very Danish influence and culture, we tried those Dane's pancakes, chased by a Danish. Like I said, my friends are cool.

After breakfast, the rest of the girls headed to spend the day in Santa Barbara, shopping and hanging out for one more night and Sally and I headed home to kiddos. Next year, I hope I can stick around for another night. And be faster.

Good Job Katelyn! I am impressed... running, not my favorite.
