Do you remember how fun field trips were? They were the best. I would be excited for days leading up to them as a kid. Tessa had her first field trip last week to Tanaka Farms. The only semblance of a farm anywhere in South Orange County. To it’s credit, it is a real working farm, it’s pretty, has nice, tight rows, grows vegetables, strawberries and pumpkins. They have commercialized it near to death, such is life in Orange County, but it’s a farm just same. They even take you on tractor rides. I got to go with her. I got a sitter for Bode and went and enjoyed a couple of hours with my first born. It was like old times, I was grateful for the opportunity to spend some one on one with her. That girl is a kick in the pants.
The kids got to visit the petting zoo. I am still not a big fan of goats and sheep. I have GOT to quit wearing skirts into petting zoo’s. They also got to go on a tractor ride, pick vegetables: carrots, green onions, radishes and green beans, and choose their very own pumpkin from the patch.
Most of Ms. Shirley’s preschool class.
Tessa could pick any pumpkin she wanted from the patch. There were lots of great, round, perfect pumpkins. Tessa picked this one.
It’s a runt, miss-shapen, and a myriad of orange tones. I kept my mouth shut and at first thought, really? THAT’s the pumpkin you want? Then I looked at it again, scoured all those perfect pumpkins and glanced at my beaming child’s face and was so proud. So proud. When Wade came home that night she ran out to meet him and bring him in through the front porch where she could show him her pumpkin. Wade said, “Wow, Tess. You are an equal opportunity pumpkin picker!” She taught me a good lesson that day. I hope she remains an equal opportunist all her days.
A few days later we washed and cut her vegetables and put them in our salad for dinner. It was a great opportunity to teach where our food comes from. I love this crazy.

What an awesome preschool! That sounds like such a fun trip for littles. I love Wade's comment on the pumpkin.
You two ladies sure are cute!
SO fun. Aaron and I are going to take Viv to tanaka when we get back from San Fran.
Laughed right out loud at the skirt comment! I hate to say it, but I am not an equal opportunist when it comes to pumpkins. Perfect pumpkins are my favorite!
You know, if you turn her pumpin upside down, it would make a perfect conehead. She could have the first conehead pumpkin ever!
